Monopoly Marathon - May 2003
The new programme for Scouts puts more emphasis on the international aspects of Scouting. As part of the International Group Award we are raising money to support the Clean Water project in Uganda which involves Scouts from Bramshill. Our Scout Groups want to raise enough money to enable them to have clean water for FIVE years. That's a long time to them and to us but it only needs £150 of your money. We had the first of our fund-raising events at the end of May. We rannon-stop Monopoly from 10 am to 4 pm and the boys were sponsored to take part. One of the boys also ran a Tombola where parents and boys could win some great prizes. ![]()

![]() Every day we collect the water from our well. We use a hand pump to raise the water and fill our jerry cans. We depend on fresh clean water for drinking, cooking and washing. With access to fresh water we can expect to live a healthy and happy life. With fresh water we are less likely to be ill and can enjoy going to school and Scouts. ![]() We also have a well but the pump doesn't work! To maintain the pump and its diaphragms and valves cost £30 a year. The problem is our village doesn't have £30 so we have to collect water from the streams or lakes. We can expect illness and disease, which stop us going to school and Scouts. Without clean water we can expect permanent damage to our health and exposure to life threatening conditions. |
