Slimbridge YHA Winter Camp March 2006
|
Slimbridge is in the west of England near Gloucester. The Scouts and Cubs went for a weekend to visit the Wetlands Centre and enjoy the countryside. The Youth Hostel sits right beside the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal. We arrived on Saturday lunchtime and made up our beds. The Cubs took their lunch with them and walked to the Wetlands Centre. The Scouts ate their lunch at the hostel and then set off for a hike through the open countryside.
There is a lot of open field walking.
And somebody had to emphasis the point that Chelsea beat Spurs that weekend!
After our walk the Scouts headed on to the Wetlands Centre to meet the Cubs.
Some of the wildfowl we saw. Skip wasn't sure if they were all wild but some of the geese were pretty angry!
I know their mums think they're angels but I didn't know our Scouts could walk on water!

Akela isn't as soft as you think! He made us go for a walk BEFORE breakfast on Sunday Morning.
It was snowing, but it gave us an opportunity for a snowball fight with the leaders.
Looking across the canal to the hostel. After breakfast we went to the Waterways Museum at Gloucester docks.

It was a very cold weekend but we all had a great time! |
